Hockey

Sports in the US is really something special. Friday the 12th of November, Sara, Pernille, Jasper, Steffen, Bertel and I went to a hockey game with Pernille's hostfamily. It was a local team, the Everett Silvertips, playing in the WHL, Western Hockey League, and they were all between the age of 16 and 20. The stadium was huge, with a capacity of 10000 people. It was a great game, and even though the Silvertips were the underdogs they won 5-2. The atmosphere was amazing, even without the stadium being completely filled.

During games, whether it's hockey, football or baseball, a lot of stuff is going on. For instance, in hockey, when a player scores a hat-trick everybody wearing a hat throws their hat on to the field. It was great!

A weekend with my Alliegator

Allie, my host-sister from Nebraska, came to visit me this weekend!! I was so excited as I skipped school on Friday, to go pick her up at the airport.

It's funny how you can go without seeing a person for a long time, but then, when you see them, it's like you never left each other. That's how it is with Allie. Last time I saw her was this summer. She came back from Colorado to see me and my family for only one night, so we didn't get to talk that much. That's why I was so excited to have her come here. A whole weekend, where we, just the two of us, could hang out and talk about old times.

The Friday she arrived, we took the metro back to Seattle. We walked down to the water, to the Pike Place Market, and saw all the touristy stuff that's around there. She was really amazed by all the water and fresh fish - she is not used to this in Nebraska.

After walking around for a while, we went to see a movie. We watched "the Social Network", which is about the making of Facebook. It was really good! After that we went to this really cool sushi place, where all the different kinds of sushi would go around on this moving band, and then you could just grab whatever you want. The plates' color would decide how much each item was.

We took the bus home, and went to bed. Nebraska is two hours ahead, so Allie was pretty tired when we got home.

Saturday some of my classmates, Allie and I took the bus to Snoqualmie Falls. It was a pretty long busdrive, and the weather was not too good, so when we arrived, we couldn't really see anything. But still, it was really pretty, so I can only imagine what it looks like when the sun is shining.

We took the bus back to Seattle, where we all went to this Italian restaurant. After this, we split up, and some of us went to Fremont. It's a neighborhood right outside Seattle where there's a lot of vintage shops. It's a really cool place!

Sunday, Allie and I went to downtown Edmonds. Since the buses don't run on Sundays we had to walk, and Allie was getting kind of cranky with all the hills. We went to this American breakfast restaurant, and had an American breakfast containing eggs, bacon, sausages, and pancakes. After this we walked down to the water. It was a really nice day, so we just walked around and enjoyed the weather, the water and each other. We took a cap home - Allie didn't want to walk home, because now it was going UP-hill...

Jill took Allie and I to the transit center, where Allie would take a bus to the airport. She would spend Sunday night in a hotel by the airport, since her plane back to Nebraska would leave at 6 am.

We've had a great weekend together, and I really hope that her and her family will be able to come to Denmark next summer!

Another great day

Today started out perfect. When I was walking to the bus stop this morning, I could see the sun rise from behind the mountains; this place is amazing!!

Well, today we were going to MOHAI, Museum of History and Industry, for our history class. We left school at 8:45, and arrived at the museum at 9:50. The traffic going downtown Seattle is awful at this time, and it took us at least twice as long time to get there.

The museum was alright. I think it would have been better if we had gotten a guided tour, because we were all just walking around, and didn't really know where to go and what we were looking at.

We didn't have school the rest of the day, so after the museum, we were driven downtown. 8 girls and Jasper went to the Cheesecake Factory to eat lunch. It was soooooo delicious! We all shared 3 pieces of cheesecake for dessert, and we all agreed that it was pretty darn good!

After we had been shopping a bit, some of us took the Monorail, from downtown to Seattle center. The Monorail is a kind of train, that drives on rails above the streets. Because of the new Harry Potter movie coming out in a little bit (so excited by the way) the train was "dressed" as the Hogwarts Express.

When we were getting on the train, we all stood in line to get our tickets. We all got on the train, except Janne, and then the doors closed! None of us could do anything, and the 6 of us who made it in the train just waved (and laughed) at Janne while the train started. Luckily, this kind of train goes back and forward between the same two stops, so Janne just got on the next one, but gosh, it was hilarious!!

One of the reasons we had no school today, was so that we could go to the Experience Music Project. It is a museum about music. It is free every first Thursday in every month, so of course, being the Danes we are, we were going. That too was alright, it had a lot of cool guitars and such, but we were all pretty tired, so we left pretty quickly.
